1Do I need a fishing license or fishing permits in Norway?
For sea fishing? You don’t need to buy a permit to fish in the sea in Norway. It’s free! However, there is a limit on how much fish you can export out of Norway: 20 kg of fillets per person.
2Do I need a boating license to run the boat in Norway?
Everyone born on or after 1 January 1980 needs a boating license to operate a recreational craft flying a Norwegian flag if it is longer than 8 metres or has an engine of at least 25 HP. If you were born before 1980 you may operate a recreational craft of up to 15 metres without a boating license. You are nevertheless encouraged to take the boating exam to demonstrate that you possess the necessary knowledge to operate a vessel safely at sea.
3What is the best period to come for the fishing holiday?
The peak season lasts all the way through from March to the end of October. In March-April, when the Arctic cod comes to the fjords to spawn, the waters are absolutely teeming with fish. The weather is best in May, June and July, which is also when you can enjoy the beautiful midnight sun. Late summer is the best time to catch a really big halibut.
4How about the diesel for the boats?
The boats have a full tank when you arrive and we fill them up again when you leave, so you only pay for the diesel that you use. The fuel tanks of our boats have a capacity of 500 to 800 litres. Average weekly consumption is about 150-450 litres, depending on how you drive the boat and what distance you travel. We make sure that the boat is clean when you receive it, and we expect you to clean the boat before returning it to us.
5How long will it take to get to the best fishing spots?
There are good fishing spots just one hour from our fishing camp in the direction of Magerøyasund, where you can expect huge halibut, cod, catfish and many other fish. The very best sites are about 3 hours west by boat. The area from Kjelvik up to Helnes, including Storegrunnen, Sveet and Austersve, is always teeming with fish!
6Can we rent a skipper?
Yes, we are able to organize a local fisherman on request. Please arrange this with us in advance.
7Do I need to bring my own bed linen or towels?
No! Bed linen, towels, toilet and kitchen paper, soap, etc. are included in the price.
8Do you rent a fishing equipment?
Yes, we can offer fishing equipment and floatation suits to rent. Please book them in advance.
9Can we use the sauna, BBQ house and Internet?
Yes, all our guests have free access to: Internet (Wi-Fi), a sauna, a cold store, a room for preparing your catch, a drying room for floatation suits and a BBQ cabin
10Can you arrange transfers from the airport for our group?
Yes, the nearest airport is in Honningsvåg just 8km from our fishing camp, but all international flights go via Oslo to Alta. Alta Airport is about 200 km away and it takes about 2.5-3 hours by car each way. Please contact us in advance if you need a transfer.
11How can I find a flight to Alta?
Please check international airlines. The most popular ones are www.sas.no and norwegian.com
12How are you different from other fishing camps?
We have over 25 years’ experience of running the fishing camp. Your safety is very important to us, which is why we only provide big boats. The weather conditions can change unexpectedly so with our boats you are always able to get safely back home. Moreover we are situated on the south part of Magerøya Island, which means the mountains protect us from the north wind. Our guests aren’t stuck in their cottages – they are out fishing every day!
13What is check out time?
Both the apartments and boats are available from 15:00 onwards on the day of arrival. Boats must be returned at 18:00 on the last evening before you leave, while the apartments must be vacated by 10:00.
14What is the camp’s cancellation policy?
After we receive your booking request, we will send you a contract to sign with all the information you need. If you are making a booking for the next season, you have to pay a 25% advance payment by the end of September. In you cancel after 31/12/2017 the advance payment will not be refunded. The balance must be paid at least one month before your arrival. All transactions are made by bank transfer to our company account.

16Can we take alcohol on the boats?
Under Norwegian law, you are not allowed to steer the boat if you have a blood alcohol content of over 0.2%. The person driving the boat is responsible for the boat and crew. If you drive under the influence of alcohol, you could lose your driver’s license ... So think before you act.
